Comorian (Shikomor) is the most
widely utilized language on the Comoros (self-governing islands
in the Indian Ocean, off Mozambique & Madagascar). It is a nearby
relation of Swahili with a very strong Arabic influence, and is
one of the 3 functionary languages of the Comoros, following to
French & Arabic.
Each island has a slightly another dialect;
that of Anjouan is named Shindzuani, that of Mohel Shimwali, that
of Maore Shimaore, and which of Grand Comoro Shingadzija. No official
alphabet existed in 1992, but Arabic & Latin scripts were both
used.
There there is no home newspaper in Comoros; the
in the lead regional paper is Al-Watwan published on Grand Comore;
Kwezi is also printed on Mayotte. Radio Comoros is the national
radio service & Comoros home TV is the television service.
